FOWODE to keep championing women’s opportunities in Uganda
The Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) hosted a momentous fundraising dinner at the Kampala Serena Hotel on June 16th, 2024. The event, which was graced by the presence and support of Uganda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, was a resounding success, celebrating leadership, empowerment, and entrepreneurship among Ugandan women.
Prime Minister Nabbanja underscored the government’s dedication to gender equality and highlighted the significance of the Imara Women’s Centre (IWC).
“This Centre represents a crucial step towards a society where women can lead, thrive, and inspire future generations,” she emphasized.
Nabbanja’s speech resonated with the importance of equipping women with the tools and support needed to become effective leaders in their communities.
The event also shone a light on the Imara Women’s Centre’s role as a safe haven where women can find healing to enable them further the gender agenda.
The focus on fostering entrepreneurship at the Imara Women’s Centre was evident as several private sector sponsors pledged their ongoing support. “We believe this is an investment in the future of our nation,” remarked Sarah Kagingo the Vice Chair of PSFU, a major sponsor.
The funds raised will directly contribute to the construction of the Centre in Wakiso district, designed to nurture social entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers.
The evening was also filled with heartwarming moments, including the presentation of awards to outstanding women who have made remarkable strides in various fields. Among the distinguished awardees were:

“These awardees are not just leaders; they are beacons of hope and resilience,” said Patricia Munabi, Executive Director of FOWODE. The event also shone a light on the Imara Women’s Centre’s role as a safe haven where women can find healing to enable them further the gender agenda..
The night wasn’t just about speeches and donations. Captivating performances by Ugandan songstresses Juliana Kanyomozi and Rema Namakula energized the crowd and showcased the cultural vibrancy and talent of Ugandan women. “Performing here tonight is my way of supporting the incredible work FOWODE is doing,” Rema Namakula shared with the audience. She also pledged to continue championing the cause.
The event concluded with a powerful call to action from FOWODE. “Together, we can create a Uganda where women are not just seen but heard, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential,” urged Munabi. The success of the fundraiser is a testament to the collective commitment to advancing women’s rights and opportunities in Uganda.
