Uganda Chamber of Commerce urges dialogue to settle EFRIS saga.

The Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) has requested that traders and the government engage in cooperative communication to resolve issues pertaining to the Electronic Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS).

The appeal was made following complaints from traders who feel the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has not given them enough information on how to use the system.

Business owners have opposed EFRIS, which was created to improve tax compliance, claiming that inadequate communication has hampered its implementation.

The UNCCI has called for a roundtable discussion to address the communication gap between traders and the government, as the recent protests have brought attention to the tension between them.

UNCCI director George Inholo stressed the importance of improving communication tactics.

“There’s a significant gap between traders and the government regarding EFRIS. This gap has caused confusion and frustration among the business community,” he stated.

“We believe that open dialogue can help address these concerns and ensure a smoother implementation of the system.”

UNCCI Vice President Stephen Kalibbala echoed this idea and emphasized the value of working together.

The UNCCI thinks that through encouraging dialogue and collaboration, traders and the government can come to an agreement on EFRIS, guaranteeing that the system fulfills its objectives without putting an excessive burden on businesses.

The chamber has offered to mediate talks in order to encourage fruitful communication between the parties.
