Museveni urges new ministers to make wealth creation a priority and tackle corruption.
The newly appointed ministers have been urged by President Museveni to put fighting corruption and generating wealth first.
“Corruption undermines our efforts, but by focusing on wealth creation and fighting corruption, we can achieve 80 percent of our goals,” he said.
These statements were made on Wednesday at State House-Entebbe during the swearing-in ceremony of the six newly appointed ministers, who were approved by the parliamentary Appointments Committee on Monday, March 25.
President Museveni was present as Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Ms. Lucy Nakyobe, conducted the ceremony.
The newly appointed ministers are Phiona Nyamutoro for Minerals and Energy Development, Dr. Kenneth Omona for Northern Uganda, Florence Wamala Nambozo for Karamoja Affairs, and Lillian Aber for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, Gen Wilson Mbadi for Trade and Balaam Barugahara for Youth and Children.
Museveni congratulated the ministers on their achievement and further tasked Balaam to promote youth involvement in wealth creation through industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT.
In addition, he promised to think about forgiving opposition politicians who have been charged with encouraging unlawful protests, given that they promise not to do so in the future.
Congratulating the ministers on their appointments, Nakyobe urged them to uphold the trust that the President and Ugandans have placed in them.
She also presented Gloria Asio Omaswa to the President as the new Principal Private Secretary.
