Pioneer Easy Bus wants to be paid shs25b to exist Namboole Stadium parking.

The proprietors of Pioneer Easy Bus company have requested 25 billion shillings from the government as compensation to vacate the parking lot at Namboole Stadium.

The company claims to have obtained a 49-year lease for the land’s use from the Uganda Land Commission (ULC).

The comes after the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among ordered to have the broken-down buses moved away from the lot, ahead of the commissioning of the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

The management of Namboole Stadium claims that the Pioneer Easy Bus owners owe them 157 million shillings for parking lot use, according to State Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang.

Namboole Stadium was recently declared unfit to host international matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in an interim inspection report on Friday, April 12, 2024. The report cited a number of obstacles, including unfinished renovation work and a parking space taken up by buses.

Parliament has so far approved Shs97 billion for phase one renovation works of the facility.

During a guided tour supervised by Ogwang, Speaker Among expressed her satisfaction with the renovation works carried out by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade.

Ogwang directed the contractors to complete all pending works and hand over the facility within two weeks, in preparation for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) competitions in June. The stadium is also part of Uganda’s plans for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition in 2027.
